Introduction to Drupal

When approaching any sort of project – a website, a home renovation or a camping trip – it’s essential to have the right tool for the job. As web designers, we have a particularly large range of software packages available to us to assist in creating our websites.

The key software choice to make when designing a site is which CMS or core package we will use to form the base of the site. A CMS (Content Management System) is software that sits on your web server and manages all the content and communications that happen on your website.

Firefox Extensions, Vol. 1

If you’ve read the ‘fast facts’ in my profile, you’ll know that I really dig Firefox extensions. Over years I’ve trialled a silly number of them in the quest to find the perfect extension set. Does slow and steady really win the race?

As a child, like many, I grew up with the fable 'The Tortoise and the Hare'.

They agreed on a route and started off the race. The hare shot ahead and ran briskly for some time. Then seeing that he was far ahead of the tortoise, he thought he'd sit under a tree to relax before continuing the race.

Make your website work with you

Ok so you'll all be happy to know that my plant has survived. It goes to show that a little maintenance...well actually I should start this again.

So basically I took some of my dad's advice...thought about it for a few days...then acted upon it...oh and then forgot. So until a friend stepped in to overhaul and put my maintenance regime back on track, it was pretty much stumbling downhill toward plant doom.

Watering your investment

Abruptly waking to my alarm, I reached over switching it to snooze and noticed that my once prospering well nourished plant wasn't looking its cheery self. A phone call to my Dad set things straight.

"Oh, so you're supposed to water it every day - not just when you feel like it."

Yes as you'd expect life, like it always does, takes over and maintaining the small things like nourishing a plant suddenly slides down the scale of importance.
