Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and all that kind of jazzy stuff!!! To one and all by the way! Right, so seeing as I'm a really nice guy I thought I would quickly give my fellow web designers some links to a nifty bunch of free resources as a bit of a thrifty Christmas present.

Top Facebook status trends of 2009

Facebook is a platform a lot of us have come to know, love and express ourselves though. Status updates enable us to communicate our feelings to the Facebook network.

Just recently the Facebook Data Team have put together something they call "Facebook Memology", referring to this research project as being a study of how memes, or new ideas and trends are spreading on Facebook. The data the Facebook Data Team collected is based on words and phrases in U.S. status updates.

Political Interfaces

Political Interfaces

It's Monday and already we've found a new interactive visualisation to get all gar-garh over.

The New Political Interfaces visualise the influence of new means of communication in politics. This visualisation has been inspired by the influence of social networking systems in the Obama campaign; the creative team looked into content generated by official sources and political parties, in contrast to those generated by individuals in online systems.

The impact of online networks to offline relationships

Surprise, surprise; results from a Crowd Science survey reveal social media users want to be heard! I thought humans in general liked to be heard, at least to be given attention anyway. In fact I don't know of anyone that doesn't  like being noticed, do you?

45% of the Crowd Science Respondents indicate they like being noticed on social media. 36% believed that others are simply interested in what they have to say.

Other interesting results from the survey indicate that women are more than three times likely to say online social media was their favourite leisure activity.

So here you have it; a showcase and a little insight into what was hot in Tweeting news.

A Year of Insight

As 2009 draws to a close, it is traditional and customary to review and assess the year gone by.

Working as part of the Feedian team, I have seen both the business and its people constantly evolve, improve and grow. Personally, I have learnt so much about business structure, efficiency and management; in particular, with our partnership with Daniel from CAD Partners, I have massively enjoyed the challenges - the highs and lows - of developing systems and tools to evaluate, forecast and analyse future growth.

2009 = Last Year... Almost

The year is almost up.  Weird.  Each year seems to be going faster, I'm sure you know what I'm on about.  This one has whizzed by, and has seen me complete an 18 month tour of duty in the Feedia theatre of operations.

A year in the life of Letitia Power

Looking around the office this very moment, a smirk comes over my face as I remember this time last year, what a change a year can have!

2008, I was getting on average 2 hours sleep every night preparing for my final year exhibition and exams at QUT.

2009 has seen all that hard work pay off with the graduation certificate arriving by post, awesome communication skills QUT, and the near completion of one year solid full-time employment at Feedia.

The year that was, 2009

As another year begins to wrap up, our personal, professional and the company's achievements over the past 12 months have become clear.

This year has seen massive highs and some lows for all of the team; as the saying goes what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. Through the highs of launching Feedia, working on new and exciting projects, and streamlining our process and aligning goals, one thing that has trumped all - our bond as a team.

Boom or Gloom – it’s up to you

My 2009 started in the recession-battered South East of England in the land of the Whingeing Pom – and boy were we whingeing. Panic had set in big-time and 80s terminology like ‘streamlining’ and ‘tightening up our processes’ meant lots of businesses were shedding people and cutting back on spending, especially in the marketing arena.

I am still in touch with my business contacts back home and those companies that kept or re-deployed their people and managed their marketing spend effectively are leaner, fitter and ready to storm ahead in 2010.

Is your website's design forgettable?

A recent blog entry by Mike Hall delved into the realm of 'Forgettable Web Design' and its impact on a business, its customers and prospects.

Jakob Nielsen, a usability expert, describes the human brain as being a place not optimised for the abstract thinking and data memorisation that some websites demand. Many usability guidelines are dictated by cognitive limitations.

CSS3 Rounded Corners = Cool

I'm sure I'm not the only web designer who can't wait for CSS3 to become fully supported in all browsers. There is so much in there that will not only pave the way for awesome design, but will make things a bazillion times easier for us. For me, one of the things that stands out the most is the border radius property.

Allow yourself to float on into a dream world where you no longer have to use images or image sprites to achieve this effect. Oh what a wonderful world it would be right?
