Recently Yoox (E-Retailer) and British style magazine i-D have launched a Facebook application and contest to celebrate the styling talents of their customers, readers and budding fashionistas.
This app enables and encourages Facebook users to assemble outfits from Yoox's catalogue, ranging from medium to high end fashion pieces. "On top of this, the outfits users assemble go into a competition to be profiled in the next i-D magazine.
After exploring this application, I found it interesting that the fundamentals of the social media platform have been overlooked, such as the ability to share content online via other platforms.
Participants don't have the ability to share, promote and request votes via other platforms, such as Twitter and email. Nowadays it's important to enable the user to break away from the platform and spread your campaign's message out of the confinements of the box (selected platform).
By not allowing participants to share their outfits via other platforms this potentially hampers the campaign's variability.
It's important, before taking the plunge and developing your Facebook or online application, to look at the audience's behaviour and also the platform in which you're developing the idea/campaign on.
