Some of my favourite web design resources

Sharing knowledge and resources is what makes the web such a cool place. So, I've decided to share some of my favourites with you, my dear reader.

Icons

Great for enriching layouts and distinguishing content, a good set of icons can really make a difference. Getting your hands on free commercial sets is even more fun! Here are a few of my favourites (be sure to read any terms of use instructions!).

Typography

This is a subject I'm growing more fond of by the second. That's a lie, it's probably more daily than anything, but I digress. Underestimate it's importance at your peril kind sir / madam! For definite improvement in your designs, become more aware of the principals and techniques of typography. Here is a few places you can go to achieve this.

Reading

Nice places for you to curl up and have a good read. Dislaimer: It's probably best not to curl up and read a computer monitor. Consult your physician.

CSS

Ah yes, cascading style sheets. our friendly apparatus to build beautiful websites. Well sometimes it's not so friendly and WILL bite your hand off for spite! Here are some places I go to get some pointers.

Inspiration

All designers need a kick start now and then. Not to mention constant fresh perspectives. There are so many website galleries, I won't even begin to try and shortlist them. I'll throw you some that I use though.

So there you have it. A good starting list of valuable web resources that help me do my job. I can't stress enough how important it is to discover the many more that are out there though, as there is bound to be many hidden gems! Know of any? Let me know!

This is a really comprehensive list, thank you for the valuable insight. I especially enjoyed browsing through Web Designer Wall (Inspiration section). I will be on the look out to see if I can can find any recommendations of my own.
