Watering your investment
Abruptly waking to my alarm, I reached over switching it to snooze and noticed that my once prospering well nourished plant wasn't looking its cheery self. A phone call to my Dad set things straight.
"Oh, so you're supposed to water it every day - not just when you feel like it."
Yes as you'd expect life, like it always does, takes over and maintaining the small things like nourishing a plant suddenly slides down the scale of importance.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that like all things, consistently maintaining your website and online presence can suddenly be somewhere on that to-do-list sitting amongst the paper work on your desk.
Yes, the comparisons being a plant and a website are substantially different but the lesson is the same. Without maintaining and nourishing your online presence regularly with either new website content, a blog entry or an updated twitter status you're not watering the investment and it won't prosper. And one day you'll be left bewildered scratching your head not knowing when or how this occurred.
One word, 'Maintenance'.
With online technology, consistently maintaining your online presence has become less of a burden. Twitter, mobile applications and other web tools have been developed to fit in with today's busy lifestyles, therefore allowing you to effectively and efficiently update and maintain your online presence to keep your audience engaged with your brand.
Needless to say without maintaining your online presence, or your plant for that matter, you'll be waking to a limp and malnourished investment similar to mine.
